HASPA Ethics Policy The Homeless Advocates and Service Providers Association, Inc. (HASPA) supports a culture of openness, trust and integrity in all its management and business practices. A well-understood ethics policy requires education, participation and support of every HASPA employee and volunteer. At HASPA we are committed to conducting our business and activities with the highest standards of ethical conduct. Our HASPA Code of Conduct, outlined in our Human Resources Policy Manual, provides guidance for decisions and actions during our daily work. We are committed to the responsible use of HASPA assets, to providing accurate, complete and objective information, to respecting the confidentiality of financial and other information, to acting in good faith and exercising due care in all we do, to complying with all laws, rules and regulations and to proactively promoting ethical behavior. HASPA is built on values that acknowledge our individual responsibility to ensure our collective success by practicing and promoting the following values. These values reflect a shared view of how we operate and conduct business within our desire to provide dignity and compassion to people who experience the tragedy of homelessness. Integrity HASPA pursues its mission with honor, fairness and respect for the individual, always aware that there is not a “right way” to do the “wrong thing.” We uphold the values of HASPA in every action and decision. We are committed to acting in good faith, to complying with the rule of law and HASPA policies and regulations. Inclusiveness We are dedicated to a single purpose, fueled by a diversity of thought and action. We serve responsibly as members of the communities in which we live and work. Our intent is for our employees and volunteers to represent our diverse population, so we can maximize the relationship between HASPA and those we serve. Dedication HASPA is dedicated to our members and our cause. We hold ourselves to a high standard of excellence that makes HASPA a successful organization. We are committed to discovery and continuous improvement in developing and implementing programs, products and services. We are dedicated to experiencing compassion, thoughtful listening and meaningful action in our goal to end homelessness. Excellence We believe that our work should always be performed within an environment of best practices and highest ethical standards. We strive to maintain daily determination to provide a consistent level of excellence expected by all who rely on us. We are determined to not only do the best at what matters most, but also to do our best at what matters least. We believe excellence is achieved when every aspect of our good work is maintained at the highest possible level. Sensitivity HASPA values its employees, volunteers and members, and treats them with respect and professional authority. We operate in an open door climate, where trust and communication are the standard, and respect and cooperation are everyday attitudes. Vision In an effort to support our mission, we are willing to take prudent risks. We strive to be proactive, innovative and creative in all we do. We travel uncharted territory with courage and enthusiasm. HASPA is committed to its goal of seeing an end to homelessness, and we are imaginative in our approach to this goal. Our People HASPA is committed to providing a work environment that values diversity among its volunteers and employees. All Human Resource policies and activities are intended to create a respectful workplace where every individual has the opportunity to reach their highest potential. We encourage open communication. Employees are provided opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, veteran status, or disability. These policies apply to both applicants and employees in all phases of employment including recruiting, hiring, placement, training, development, transfer, promotion, demotion, performance reviews, compensation, benefits and separation from employment. We evaluate our conduct in the immediate and, with a watchful eye, review our performance on a regular basis. We provide a mechanism for feedback from our employees, volunteers and members. We provide all our stakeholders an opportunity to report unethical conduct and respond immediately and appropriately. We begin with employee orientation and regularly communicate our ethical expectations to all employees and volunteers. Our Members HASPA is dedicated to member satisfaction. We are devoted to developing member enthusiasm and are passionate in exceeding member expectations. We dedicate ourselves toward anticipating the changing needs of members and creating timely, innovative and superior programs, products and services. Conflict of Interest All HASPA employees and volunteers are charged with avoiding any activity, investment or interest that might reflect unfavorably on the reputation of the HASPA, its members and its goals. As representatives of HASPA, all employees and volunteers are obligated to place the interest of HASPA, in any transaction involving HASPA, ahead of any personal interest or personal gain, and to disclose all facts in any situation where a potential conflict of interest may arise. Employees and volunteers are expected to seek clarification of and discuss any questions about potential conflict of interest with their supervisor or the Executive Director. Information and Property Employees and volunteers are expected to protect and maintain confidentiality regarding HASPA’s property, including cash, equipment, records and employee and member information. Reporting Ethics Violations If you have any questions or concerns about compliance with the subjects described in this policy, or are unsure about any point within this policy, we strongly encourage you to discuss your concerns with the Executive Director of HASPA by calling (623) 322-3261 or via direct email at admin@haspa.org. Reporting of ethics violations will be treated as confidential information and can be communicated anonymously.
